Volkswagen have set the official range record for the longest distance travelled by an EV after covering 587 miles on a single charge.
The model in question was a current production line Volkswagen ID 7 Pro S. This particular line has a WLTP 440 miles, meaning this car managed to out perform expected range by a staggering 147 miles.
Completed on the Nardò test track in Northern Italy, the car was driven for 33 hours in total, at an average speed of 18mph. This speed was chosen as Volkswagen said it correlates to typical city driving.
This experiment demonstrates the ability of new electric vehicles, and how range anxiety once feared can become a thing of the past in modern driving.
